Kalyves, a lovely seaside town at the east end of Suda Bay, attracts many people to its extensive shore, where the rivers of Koiliaris and Xydas flow into the sea. On the hill to the east the fortified capital of the province of Apokorono was built at the time of the Venetian occupation. Kalyves offers the visitor excellent service. At the village of Megala Horafia is the important archaeological site of Aptera, from which you may follow an interesting route through delightful surroundings and important monuments to Stylos, Samonas and Kyriakoselia, ending up at Kalyves.
