MUNICIPALITY OF VAMOS
Almyrida, a small seaside fishing village, has grown rapidly in recent years along with neighbouring Plaka. At the entrance to the village a large Early Christian basilica with interesting mosaics has been excavated, showing that an ancient town once stood here, perhaps Phoenikas. The village offers many facilities for recreation and visits to the surrounding traditional villages of Kokkino Chorio, Gavalochori, Vamos, Douliana, Kephala and other smaller communities. The natural environment in the region is also of interest, and there is a fine Folklore Museum at Cavalochori.
